Finding Ethical Guidance

how to find ethical Guidance

There are wonderful, gifted, genuine, ethical psychics, intuitive counsellors and healers out there,  but this field is also chock full of scammers, frauds and money hungry charlatans.  At one point I had serious doubts about whether or not I even wanted to continue to work in this field at all because of all the rip-offs which illegitimise the work that serious intuitive advisors do.      I realised that I can’t fix the problem and rid the world of crooks but I CAN be in charge of what I do, work with my own sense of morality and ethics and help other people steer clear of bad apples.

So for many years I’ve offered help for people trying to finding a good, professional psychic who is right for them and to avoid the pitfalls (psychic addiction, scams, psychics who are abusive, etc).    I believe that doing the RIGHT things helps one to be successful too.  Good psychics adhere to ethical professionalism, and because they do they are successful without needing to step on clients or each other in the process.   I don’t focus only on money or charge for every second because I know doing the right things will draw abundance my way.   I steer clear of the dramas because I simply don’t feel it’s positive energy.      There are great readers out there – it just takes some clear heart and careful attention to find them.

Here are some tips I give to clients (and anyone who asks) in finding a psychic/intuitive helper –  I hope you will find them helpful :

FINDING THE RIGHT MATCH

Locating the right psychic, ( or spiritual guidance, intuitive counselor, astrologer, healer, etc.) is a deeply personal endeavour, like trying on bathing-suits.  This is a “right fit” intimate thing, that can’t be selected for you. What works for your best friend may NOT work for you.   That said, if you have friends who are interested in spirituality or who see psychics, ask for their opinions and experiences but be aware that you will have your OWN experience.

Finding the right psychic often means opening your eyes and heart while you do research (read through listings, etc.)  One great way is to pick from readers who match your beliefs and ethics and those you feel “drawn to” be they phone psychics, in-person psychics who operate out of store-fronts or homes, or those who work on online services ( such as myself) .

The best, ethical psychics, intuitive counsellors, readers have a few things in common:

*Regular People

You may have seen movies of psychics crouched down over glowing crystal balls, wearing veils, beads and headdresses, but it real life this isn’t necessarily the sign of a good psychic.  If someone comes across as too “theatrical”  as if they’re playing a role, chances are, — they are!    Most good intuitives  are just regular people and don’t need to sell themselves with a lot of fanfare.  You don’t need to be born with a caul, a veil, a maternal line of psychic princesses, or mystical heritage to be psychic.

That said, if you have a good feeling about your neighbourhood psychic and she believes in Spirit Guides or has an Armenian dwarf spirit that guides her — put your skepticism aside long enough for you to decide if the the messages and help she offers are a match for you.

* Heart versus Wallet

Good psychics  aren’t driven by ONLY money – if a psychic focuses more on cold hard cash than on you – there’s a problem.  I find this true of professionals in every imaginable field.   Be aware that many psychics are professionals and charge for their time and effort, but they will usually not behave in a money-grubbing, avaricious way that leaves you feeling they care more about the money than about your needs.  A psychic who is only interested in the cash will tell you anything they need to tell you in order to line their wallet.    I, and a lot of psychics who operate without set fees (such as on the internet via live-chat), spend some free time with clients to connect, to chat politely, to listen and take in their concerns.  I spend approximately 60% of my connected time not charging a dime and much more time in free-follow up to answer questions or offer support.  I also work with clients who are on a budget, etc.

A psychic who manipulates you to keep you on the clock, meditates while you pay,  wants to sell you spiritual bling (like special incense, candles, crystals) in order to read for you or tries to scare the money out of you, isn’t worth your time or precious energy value (your earned money).    Please be aware that just like a doctor, lawyer, pancake-maker or gas-station attendant, your Intuitive advisors need food, housing, health-insurance, new-transmissions for their cars, etc.  and work for a living. I have heard people say that a psychic has a special “gift from God” but I find this true of pianists, doctors, lawyers… well you get the idea.   Giving others their worth helps this return back to you in the form of exchange.

*  Truthful/kind instead of confections, BS and harshness

Good psychics are truthful and know that telling you a fantasy (which will make you happy for a few moments) is the wrong thing to do.  And a good psychic will not just dish up soothing bowlfuls of  ‘what you want to hear’.   They will tell you honestly what their feelings and intuitions are,  the good and bad, and  know how to be compassionate about it. I treat my clients the way I would want to be treated if I was hurting, or uncertain or clinging to negativity. It’s my belief that good psychics don’t need to lie or sugar-coat and they don’t need to be brutal to the point of rudeness either.   Not all psychics are intuitive-counsellors or have a background in therapy or psychology, but the really good ones will deliver information as a means to empower you and engender balanced thinking.  The really good ones can give you challenging help, realistic guidance or “tough love”  if need be, without tearing a hole in your heart.  Shooting from the hip is great, but blunt harshness merely closes perceptions and hurts feelings.

* SOUND GUIDANCE,  NOT CRAZY PROMISES

Good psychics don’t make crazy promises.  Real psychics are not 100% accurate and (unless they have your beloved stashed behind a curtain in the next room) they can’t “reunite loved ones in MINUTES”  or offer insane promises of “everlasting happiness”.    Real psychics don’t offer SPELLS to banish your toe-nail fungus and make your cheating boyfriend love only you, I’m sorry to say.    Psychics and Intuitive Counsellors are just human beings, not omnipotent beings. Accuracy claims should be taken with a huge grain of salt. REMEMBER: Your psychic is NOT visiting the future!!! If a psychic is 100% accurate that means the future is fixed and that you cannot alter the outcome, both, quite thankfully, untrue.

Some of this is common sense, and some of you will say, ‘come on, really?’  but  I can see how it happens.   I am a rational, sceptical, educated professional and yet, at a truly pitiful place in my journey, (a terrible heart-break)   ads in the back of the grocery-store tabloids seemed oddly appealing, “Bring him back in TWO DAYS GUARANTEED” seemed really enticing and alluring.   –    Use your common sense instead of your hurt feelings when dealing with outlandish promises.

*  NO COLD READING, NO P.T. BARNUM

A good psychic will give you personal attention that relates just to YOU. All psychics (and counsellors) use certain stories, homilies  or ways of speaking that are similar between readings (similar situations) and many people go through similar lessons, trials and travails/common experiences which psychics help many hundreds or thousands and may help point out a universal trait in you (such as insecurity) which comes up specifically in your situation -  but a good psychic never gives you cookie cutter readings or what are called “cold readings” which apply to everyone.  On the other hand, some psychics can get really accurate details about you such as something personal (often related to something that only YOU know about) – possibly a name or initial or certain dates, visuals, details about your profession or hobby etc. – HOWEVER, if a psychic seems to “know” lots of detail like your full name, your beloved’s name, date of birth and what kind of car you drive… (In other words – too much) this can also be a warning sign of fraud.

* PROPER CONFIDENTIALITY and ETHICS!

Information you share in confidence should not become town gossip the next day. Even in small towns, good psychics guard client confidentiality.

On a related note:  For those who do internet readings or text readings, I recommend clients not share their transcripts incautiously.   I treat my sessions privately and prefer my clients to do the same. Some people, unfortunately, use this information for negative and fraudulent purposes.        (*and of course – readers who share transcripts, details, tapes, etc.  are beneath contempt!)  A good psychic keeps all your information private and doesn’t discuss other clients with you.  (Obviously a good psychic never shares transcripts, tape recordings, etc) Your information should be private in the same manner as a visit to a therapist or doctor.  (*Note, many psychic reading sites monitor phone calls/transcripts to protect clients/customers- check out site T.O.S agreements)

A good psychic/practitioner will not engage in “he said she said” with other psychics, practitioners/experts.   I do not engage with other Psychics, do readings based on other readings, or monitor other people’s behaviour.   A good psychic will not play into drama.

*  GOOD ratings and feedback count …(sort of):

One of the benefits of online sources of psychics, astrologers, intuitives  is that they are rated by clients by 5 star systems or number systems (similar to Amazon and eBay).  Those who say that good ratings don’t matter, are probably those who don’t have good ratings.  Customer feedback should be taken into account when selecting an intuitive helper and many experts work very hard to do a good job and foster good customer service (a great percentage of ratings).    HOWEVER,  ratings are not the whole story.   I am a 5-star rated expert with a one of the highest rating (4.99)  but this doesn’t mean that someone with an unethical streak couldn’t coerce clients into leaving positive ratings,  but remember, lots and lots of clients and customers new and old  are always streaming in to those who have high ratings and so it would be very difficult for a truly bad/fake psychic to “fake”  or manipulate  high ratings from everyone.     Good ratings are also a way to find experts who take time with clients in order to establish a connection BEFORE hire.    That way, if client and expert are not a good match, or there is a bad connection, no session has taken place.   In formats where there is no way to give “free time”  you should expect ratings to vary more widely.

Conversely, negative ratings can (should!) occur for any reader because if a psychic is doing his/her job, there is no conceivable way to accomplish 100% Accuracy or please everyone.  A psychic may get something wrong, or misinterpret intuitive information, or have a bad day.   Some clients are not really clients at all and may have ulterior motives for leaving bad ratings and there are some clients who leave negative ratings for those who tell them what they don’t want to hear or what 23 psychics before them didn’t say.   Some clients simply do not understand the ratings system at all.    The commentary which accompanies ratings  is often much more illuminating.  Do rating clients give informative feedback?   Does the reader have lots of low ratings or remarks about unethical practices, scare-tactics or lack of facility with a given language?       Use ratings and client feedback to help you get a feel for a reader and find one that meets your needs, but ultimately, your experience will be your own.
